bwa – third place

We were awarded 3rd place in the competition for the concept of the new home of BWA Wrocław.

Our proposal for the new seat of BWA Wrocław envisions a place where heritage, ecology and contemporary art practices meet. The project reimagines a former assembly hall as a space in which art, people and nature can truly coexist.

At its centre lies the Well of All Beings — a calm, meditative core shaped by water, clay and soft light. Designed as a refuge for both visitors and future natural inhabitants, it offers a moment of pause, grounding and connection.

Architecture rooted in place

Local materials and regional craft traditions shape the interior — Lower Silesian clay, stone, wood, and glass meet reused steel and reclaimed brick. Rainwater collection, natural light distribution and passive cooling techniques reflect a commitment to sustainability and to honouring the site, rather than overwriting it.

A gallery that adapts to art

The exhibition space is fully flexible and modular — ready for large-scale installations, performance, sound and video art, or intimate displays. Historic industrial elements remain visible, forming a calm backdrop that lets each exhibition transform the space anew. The modular display system is designed for repeated use, minimizing waste and supporting a circular approach to materials, so every show can evolve without generating new production footprint.

Designed for making and working

The office and workshop areas prioritise comfort, accessibility and creative freedom. Natural textures, acoustic softness and adaptable workstations support different sensory needs and working styles, while an open creative zone remains available for artists and future projects. The workshop combines durability, functionality and comfort, enabling precise work, creative experimentation and teamwork. It is a space that supports the full arc of creation — from first idea, through prototype, to finished work.
