ZORBA Restaurant
There are few countries that – like Greece – are so clearly associated with a natural palette of colors, a free style associated with the freedom of the unlimited space of the sea and the sky enclosing it on the horizon. Wood, clay and canvas, burnt by the sun and etched by the salty wind, are a permanent background in Greek taverns.
In a restaurant in the very center of Gdańsk, located next to the yacht swimming pool, we decided to recall these memories of Greek holidays in a modern version, faithful to natural materials.
The motif of blue on the ceiling runs throughout the entire project, which turns into the color of the light wall in a light, natural way. It reminds us of the blue sky and the sea, giving warmth and coziness to the entire interior. Airy, cotton lamps unobtrusively stand out from the ceiling, like stray clouds over the water.
The wood of the furniture and finishes has a subdued, beige color, as if slightly faded in the sun. Different types of chairs eliminate formalities and give a slightly homely tone so that guests feel at ease during meetings with friends, feasts and maybe even dancing. The entire arrangement of the main room is complemented by clay elements: the finishing of the bar and the lamps above it; beautiful bas-reliefs referring to Greece, especially designed for this interior by the Nomad Ceramics studio.
The orangery adjacent to the main hall is made entirely of glass, through which streams of light enter. This space is so pleasant in itself that we decided to add only subtle Greek accents to it – graphic motifs on the floor, or blue details of tables and waiters. Greenery inside the premises, as well as on the terrace, gently warms the sea atmosphere and completes the project.
