Rediscovering Greek Holidays in the Heart of Gdańsk
Few countries evoke such vivid associations with a natural palette of colors and a free-spirited style as Greece. The interplay of wood, clay, and canvas, weathered by the sun and etched by the salty wind, forms the quintessential backdrop of Greek taverns.
In a restaurant situated in the very center of Gdańsk, next to the yacht marina, we sought to reimagine these cherished memories of Greek holidays in a contemporary setting that remains true to natural materials.
A Seamless Blend of Colors and Materials
The motif of blue adorning the ceiling threads throughout the entire project, gradually transitioning into the light hues of the walls, evoking the boundless expanse of the sky and sea. This color scheme infuses the interior with warmth and coziness. Airy, cotton lamps hang unobtrusively from the ceiling, reminiscent of stray clouds drifting over the water.
The furniture and finishes feature subdued beige tones, as if gently faded by the sun. The assortment of chairs eliminates formality, imparting a homely atmosphere that encourages guests to feel at ease during gatherings, feasts, and perhaps even dancing. The main room is further enhanced by clay elements, including the bar finishes and the lamps above it, as well as beautiful bas-reliefs inspired by Greece, meticulously crafted for this interior by the Nomad Ceramics studio.
A Light-Filled Orangery with Subtle Greek Accents
The orangery, adjacent to the main hall, is constructed entirely of glass, allowing streams of natural light to flood the space. This area is inherently delightful, requiring only subtle Greek accents, such as graphic motifs on the floor and blue details on the tables and waiters’ attire. The greenery within the premises and on the terrace gently warms the maritime ambiance, completing the project.
